Effective and Accurate FVAs and LMAs for All Students with Visual Impairments that Help Drive Instruction Programming

This tutorial discusses how to administer effective functional vision and learning media assessments for students with visual impairments and students with visual and multiple impairments, including students with diagnoses of CVI. 

Administering functional vision and learning media assessments is a crucial component of a TVI’s role within the educational team. In addition, the series will discuss incorporating rubrics and formative evaluations into the assessment, reporting, and education of students with visual impairments. The most current research will also be discussed as well as educational best practices. This workshop will be beneficial for both veteran and new teachers.

Presenters:

Tammy Reisman brings a strong background in education of students with vision impairments, as well as highly developed writing and teaching skills, to her role as the  (TVI) program coordinator in the Vision Studies program at UMass-Boston.

Reisman also supervises practicum students in their placements throughout New England, and teaches three courses in the Vision Studies program.  

Ellen Mazel works as the CVI Program Manager for Perkins School for the Blind. She joined the administrative leadership team at Perkins School for the Blind to create and oversee Perkins CVI assessment program. The position includes continued research with Dr. Christine Roman-Lantzy, a leader in the field, as well as several vision professionals at MIT, Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School to advance knowledge about CVI.

Anne Spitz is a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Dover, MA and a frequent contributor to Perkins eLearning and the Paths to Literacy website.

Participants will earn 3.0 ACVREP, CTLE, Continuing Education credits by completing an online quiz. By registering for ACVREP, CTLE, or Continuing Education credits, you will be provided with a self-paced tutorial using video clips and other resources related to this topic, as well as an online test to assess your knowledge. Presentation files are available to download and keep.
