Dear Potential Participant,
We are pleased to invite teachers of the visually impaired (TVIs) and students that read braille to participate in a research study about tactile graphics. The purpose of this study is to help us understand how best to produce tactile graphics so that they are useful to students. There are 3 phases to this study and we are actively recruiting for Phase II and Phase III.
For Phase II, we are asking TVIs to work with eligible students. The TVI will be showing the student several graphics provided by us that have been produced using three different methods. We have produced an embossed version on a braille printer, a version on swell paper, and a version on thermoform paper. A member of our research team will attend remotely via phone or video depending on your technology. We will ask a series of questions about the graphics for the student to respond to. Phase II activities will take place during the months of October 2019 and November 2019. Selected TVI’s will receive a $50.00 Amazon gift card every 30 minutes of participation not to exceed 1 ½ hours ($150.00). Selected students will also receive a $50.00 Amazon gift card for every 30 minutes of participation not to exceed 1 ½ hours ($150.00).
For Phase III, we are asking TVI’s to print out tactile graphics using PRN files we will provide. The graphics must be printed using a Tiger Embosser and mailed to us in prepaid envelopes.
If you are interested in participating, please use the link below to complete a brief survey. Surveys must be completed no later than October 11, 2019.
