E.A.R.S. – Free ECC Audio Lessons

Try these virtual audio lessons that teach adaptive daily living skills - including basic O&M skills!

The COVID-19 school closures is the perfect opportunity for students to learn more about daily living skills. While these skills are included in the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), it can be challenging for teachers of the visually impaired and for families members to fully address these skills during normal, hectic lives. However, our “new normal” has certainly turned our lives upside down as teachers transition to virtual classrooms and often family members take on a more active role in their child’s education.

What is E.A.R.S.?

E.A.R.S. (Enrichment Audio Resource Services, Inc.) has developed a curriculum of 13 auditory lessons that cover the following ECC/Daily Living Skills topics. The E.A.R.S. lessons were initially developed for adults who are coping with recent vision loss and these helpful lessons are modeled after best practices taught by vision rehab instructors. These step-by-step lessons guide the user through basic daily living skills and most lessons are completed in the comfort of the user’s home. The E.A.R.S. lessons cover many ECC daily living skills and are also appropriate for students. E.A.R.S. is a nonprofit public charity dedicated to assisting people with vision loss to be independent and confident.

E.A.R.S. ECC Topics

Each topic has numerous subtopics. To see the full list of audio lessons, go to Free Audio Lessons on the Ears for Eyes website. Check out this sample lesson under the Eating without Embarrassment topic: “Locating and Identifying Items at a Place Setting” .

Note: Determine the areas of the student’s needs and choose only the appropriate lessons; these lessons are not progressive in nature and can be completed in any order.
