Workshop Dates: March 12th, 14th, and 16th, 2018
Workshop Fee: $150 per day (Early Bird $125.00) or ALL 3-days: $350.00
Credits Per Day: 6 PDP’s, ACVREP's, Continuing Ed. Hours; 0.6 ASHA or AOTA CEUs.
Day 1 — Monday, March 12th : CVI Assessment and Programming Tools
This session will address the challenges of administering the CVI Range and methods and materials used to support the student after assessment.
This presentation will include:
- Use of the CVI Range in IEP planning and writing
- Completion of a CVI schedule, use of the CVI progress charts
- An overview of "What's the Complexity" (Tietjen) and "Picture Inventory" (Tietjen) will be provided
- a discussion about the implications of the use of other traditional vision assessments with students who have CVI
- Considerations for Learning Media Assessments
Day 2 — Wednesday, March 14th: Consideration of CVI and Impact on Orientation and Mobility
The principles of orientation and mobility must be adapted for students with CVI. This workshop will describe appropriate O&M approaches for students with CVI and will offer video opportunities and practice using adapted techniques.
Participants should be prepared to present case studies of individual students they are instructing and the challenges they face. (Bring student IEPs with identifying information redacted)
Day 3 — Friday, March 16th: Path to Literacy – CVI Prerequisites
The workshop will be used to emphasize the foundational principles used to facilitate literacy skills in children with CVI.
There are key concepts that must be in place for children to successfully engage in literacy. These concepts will be presented in an expanded form and participants will have opportunities to engage in activities associated with these principles.
