As a new teacher of students with visual impairments in California beginning in 2006, Students with CVI have been an area of interest and need. In 2006, ocular visual impairment was the main focus of instruction in teacher education, however over the last 15 years students with CVI have created an impact in our public schools VI programs. This impact has required teachers to adapt to new teaching methods and supports. In 2014, our California state guidelines changed as did our instruction focus of students with visual impairments. Over the years I have researched and worked in collaboration with other educational professionals to meet the unique needs of students with CVI. In my search to provide specialized instruction I have used the CVI range for assessment purposes and advocated for intervention focused for IEP goals based on functional levels.
