A student's "functional curriculum" addresses functional skills for independent living, through developmentally appropriate goals and activities that offer opportunities to practice such skills within the learning environment.

Nathalie de Wit is currently the Lead Teacher at Perkins School for the Blind, Lower School. She has been the Assistive Technology Specialist and has taught in a self-contained classroom with students who are blind and have significant additional disabilities. Nathalie also taught in a special education classroom at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind.
