International Resources on Education & Rehabilitation


Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) creates access to education and rehabilitation within the community, using predominantly local resources. The CBR approach is well suited to places that are developing, rural, or impoverished, where people with disabilities have often been isolated and excluded from public life. Committed to full participation for all ages, CBR begins with inclusion in local schools and supports the transition to local employment, always interwoven with the family and social life of the community.
This section is organized by audience: policy makers and community workers responsible for program implementation and administration; educators and service providers; and families. The information and links in this section offer a wealth of information for helping children get a good start in life, and supporting the independence and dignity of individuals with blindness or visual impairments, including those with additional disabilities or deafblindness.
