Learning Goals and Objectives
Upon completion of this tutorial, participants will be able to:

  • Develop standards for O&M instruction that align with State education standards.
  • Identify social and navigational skills for successful public and hired transportation.
  • Address adjustments in timing and protective technique for wheelchair users in both indoor and outdoor travel.
  • Discover ways to partner with Occupational and Physical Therapists for the traveler’s benefit.
  • Learn methodologies for teaching effective GPS skills to students and clients from childhood to adulthood and the dynamics of incidental learning.
  • Learn the dynamics and terminology of GPS, including backtracking, route setting, setting landmarks and effective waypoints, and the range and variety of Points of Interest (POIs).
