This New England Based Training is focused on increasing the knowledge of educators and personnel working with infants and children born premature. The training will include discussion of issues related to ethics, roles and responsibilities, and family support needs.
Attendees MUST attend both days of training for designated hours to earn credits.
This workshop is being provided through the collaboration of Perkins Training Center (PTC) and the New England Consortium for Deafblind Technical Assistance (NEC).
- Development of the brain and causes of prematurity
- What makes a pregnancy "high-risk"
- The NICU experience and environment
- Premature infant screening and assessment
- 10 problems of prematurity including sensory issues/CVI
- Long-term developmental outcomes in children born prematurely
- NICU screening for CVI
- Ethical issues related to the NICU babies
- Cutting edge interventions related to CVI
